Gordon Phipson practiced in Pietermaritzburg for a number of years before relocating to Durban where he joined a large firm in charge of the property law department. After 10 years he acquired the specialist conveyancing practice of Jayne Lindeman and Lindsay, the forerunner of Phipson De Villiers.

Nalini Maharaj has since taken over the firm from the 1st March 2011 and has expanded the firm to a new generation law firm.
