History:

Divina is a qualified attorney and previously practised at a leading law firm in Sandton Johannesburg, where she gained experience in commercial and general litigation, as well as various fields of law, including insolvency, forensic audits, transactional law, contractual law, and property law. She relocated to Cape Town in October 2022 to join Cullinan & Associates as a Senior Associate. This move allowed her to combine her expertise in litigation with her academic knowledge in environmental law, acquired through the completion of her Master’s degree, majoring in mining law and energy law, in environmental law in 2016.

At Cullinans, Divina has been exposed to a diverse range of matters that have added to her experience in climate change and sustainability law issues, renewable energy advisory, coastal management, environmental legislative drafting for the Republic of Mauritius on Invasive and Alien Species, management of South Africa’s threatened biodiversity import and export agreements, commercial forestry, and water law advisory amongst an array of other specialist areas pertaining to South Africa’s suite of environmental legislation. She is also conducting large-scale litigation to prevent further investment in offshore oil and gas exploitation that will exacerbate climate change. Her experience includes providing advice to mainly corporate clients and individuals.

Divina’s work to protect the Okavango Delta, a UNESCO-protected Heritage Site, has been featured in Namibian Newspapers and Radio stations. Carte Blanche has also featured her in a discussion of the implications of litigation that instituted to silence public opposition to controversial projects (so-called “SLAPP” suits).

Divina is also a member of the South African International Women’s Judge’s Association where she provides mentorship and webinars on the attorney’s profession.
