History:

Steyn grew up in Newcastle and attended the Newcastle High School. Steyn commenced his professional career with the Department of Justice and was eventually promoted to the position Acting Senior State Prosecutor.

Steyn also attended the training programme of the Department of Justice and commenced his studies with the University of South Africa. He completed his B.Iuris and LL.B degrees and his LL.B degree was awarded with distinction.

Steyn has a flair for criminal work and magistrate's court and high court litigation.
