With more than 20 years of experience in employment and labour law, Darryn Mer has acted for various corporate entities across a wide range of industries in contentious and non-contentious matters. He also represents government departments and trade unions.
In contentious matters, he has extensive experience in employment litigation with a strong focus on advocacy in employment tribunals and the Labour Court. Among others, he has appeared on behalf of clients in claims for unfair dismissal, unfair retrenchment, unfair labour practice, discrimination matters, and claims relating to breaches of contractual undertakings.
A significant part of Darryn’s practice is focused on offering strategic advice to human resource management. This includes chairing disciplinary enquiries and providing staff training. Furthermore, he drafts HR documentation such as staff manuals, training policies, disciplinary codes and procedures, and grievance procedures.
When required, Darryl advises on employment law aspects in corporate transactions, such as due diligence investigations and staff restructuring in corporate mergers and acquisitions.
