Prof. Dr. Daniel N. Erasmus is renowned and respected as an international expert in tax law. He focuses on tax controversy with a general emphasis on complex domestic and international issues and a particular emphasis on procedural defects, domestic tax issues, and international tax, including transfer pricing issues for multi-national corporations, and various international structures, including trusts, in various different jurisdictions including the USA, South Africa and other African countries.

Qualifications: BCompt (UNISA) Other: Registered as a General Tax Practitioner with SAIT – GTP(SA), and registered with SARS as a tax practitioner. Experience: Worked for SARS for over 17 years (1997-2014) in the Collections Department of which the last 9 years as a Collection Specialist in the Collections Department. The Collections Department at SARS is known as Debt Management. Was sole director for Tax Debt Solutions (Pty) Ltd between September 2014 to July 2017, then joined Strombeck Pieterse Attorneys from August 2017 until TRM. Specialising in the following areas of work: Outstanding tax debt negotiating, i.e. payment arrangements, compromise offers (tax relief), penalty waiver/remittance applications, suspension of payment. Tax disputes, i.e. objections, appeals, Tax Board, Tax Court. Tax clearance certificates (TCC’s).

His more than 29 years of experience includes all aspects of income tax planning, Revenue Service administrative proceedings and tax litigation. Daniel holds a PhD in Tax and Constitutional law, is an international tax adjunct professor, and author of numerous tax textbooks on tax risk management. He also edits www.AfricaTaxJournal.com and has written over 200 articles on tax-related issues.

Daniel was born in Zimbabwe, graduated in South Africa where practiced as an attorney for many years and then emigrated to the USA, qualified as a US Tax Court practitioner. He resides there with his family. Since then he has focussed on teaching International Tax and Transfer Pricing as an adjunct Professor, and appears as lead Counsel in various tax courts in all the US States, and various African countries, such as South Africa, Zimbabwe, Malawi, Tanzania and Mauritius.

He is married to Marlize, and has four children: Laura, Michael, Nicolas and Mila. In his spare time he is a bird photographer and motor bike rider.
