Charl is a director in the Litigation Department of the firm. As a general litigation practitioner who has a specific focus on labour and employment law, Charl has had a specialist focus in this field for the past 15 years. In addition to heading the firm’s Employment Law Department, Charl also provides strategic oversight and assistance to the Family Law and Corporate and Commercial Department of the firm.

His litigation experience includes family law, maintenance, insolvency litigation, credit and consumer related matters, property and evictions, criminal law, and labour and employment law. Charl joined Honey Attorneys (Cape Town), now BDP Attorneys, in December 2003 as a candidate attorney in the Civil Litigation Department. In February 2006, Charl was admitted as an attorney of the High Court of South Africa. He practised as a professional assistant specialising mainly in family law, insolvency law and labour law until he left the firm in March 2008. He joined E Moosa, Waglay & Petersen, now MWP Inc., as an associate in their General Litigation Department. Whilst practising here, Charl focused on corporate and commercial litigation, public and administrative law (specifically advising parastatals), insolvency law, and labour and employment law.

Charl then practised for his own account as Adams & May Attorneys from April 2009 until 31 July 2017. During this time, he remained primarily focused on employment and labour litigation for, inter alia, the Public Servants’ Association, NEHAWU, DUSWO, SEDA, the City of Cape Town among others. Additionally, Charl’s focus was on providing low cost legal services to those who would not be able to afford quality service through legal insurance providers such as Scorpion Legal Protection, Clientele Legal, Lipco Law for All, Wokerslife, Izinga Access, Zurich and Europe Assistance, Hollard legal and Lexcorp. Charl joined the firm as a director on 1 August 2017.
