Karen Vermaak has been practising as an attorney for the last thirty years during which time she has been involved in numerous major personal injury, medical negligence and third party claims. She has lectured personal injury and third party procedure to candidate attorneys at the Practical Legal Training School, since its inception, under the auspices of the Law Society of South Africa.
She is a member of the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers in the United Kingdom (APIL) and South African Association of Personal Injury Lawyers (SAAPIL). She also has extensive experience in investigating and dealing with asbestos related claims against foreign companies.
Karen has vast experience in prosecuting highly complex and technical cases in the field of Road Accident Fund Claims and Medical Negligence with some cases proceeding to the High Court for several weeks.
She also prosecuted on behalf of 1500 Asbestos victims, large-scale litigation against Cape PLC, which was a British based company and which case was vigorously fought and ultimately, she succeeded in England’s highest court being the House of Lords.
Karen has had a number of foreign clients from the USA, England, France, Germany and Australia whose cases were successfully prosecuted by her in South Africa.
