Francois Nel Du Plessis was born on 20th October 1971 and matriculated at the Afrikaans High School, Sasolburg during 1989. He obtained his B.Proc Degree at the Potchefstroom University during 1993. He was admitted as Attorney of the High Court of South Africa during 1996.

Francois obtained an Advanced Certificate in Labour Law and Relations from the Potchefstroom University during 1997. He is maried to Corlia and has two children.
